For God so Loved the World

Good Morning Everyone - Happy Tuesday!  I hope you see some Sunshine as you go through your day today :)!!

I have a new ODBD Challenge Card today, in celebration of Easter.  ODBDSLC #148 - He is Risen with pastels.  This card came together rather quickly even though it looks like it could have been complicated with all the dimension and texture.  I started by stamping the cross and sentiment in Crumb Cake (the cross image was stamped-off once to get a lighter, softer look behind the scripture).  Then I die-cut and sponged that panel, also using crumb cake.

For God so Loved the World

The next step was to emboss the background layer, and mat that onto another vanilla layer.  Then I die-cut the tree branches, arranged them in a sort-of oval behind the main image panel and adhered them into place with dimensionals.  Once that was complete I added the main panel onto a second layer of dimensionals.  I wanted to give the branches room to sort-of move - with some higher and some lower.  Here's a close-up of the scripture panel:

Scripture Close-up

At this point I was ready for the final embellishments.  I'd planned to create a floral arrangement at the bottom right, and then saw this perfect Bow that I'd made a few weeks ago using my new Becca's Bow Maker (it was a practice bow!).  The color was so perfect, it was definitely one of those 'meant to be' moments.  I love when that happens :)!!  The last step was to add the vanilla ribbon-flowers from my stash.  These are pre-made but maybe one day I'll learn how to make them by hand - that would be great.

Bow with Rose Close-up

The photo above shows a close-up of the ribbon.  It's a very sheer slightly curly ribbon, and it's actually a Gold-ish Crumb Cake color - although it looks more vanilla in a couple of these photos.  Anyway I love how it looks on this card.  Here's one more picture.

Happy Spring - ODBD SLC #147

Hi Stamping Friends - Hope all is well with you.

I have a new ODBD Shining Light Challenge card today - in celebration of Spring.  We've been seeing signs of it here in Virginia - the  birds are chirping and singing and staying very active at the feeders, and some of my flowering bushes are in bloom - so pretty!  Hope you're enjoying this change in Season wherever you are!

For this card I used a new release set from ODBD called Happy Spring.  This was a fairly simple card to make, and includes two of my favorite types of detail work - meticulous and delicate cutting, and Copic coloring (although that's hard to see really).  I love transforming a beautiful image by separating it from the card stock and giving it life and dimension.

Happy Spring 2013

To make this card I started by stamping the Pussy Willow image on white card stock, then coloring it using Copic Markers (see below for colors), and then delicately cutting it out.  At that point I added some White Flower Soft.  What a wonderful effect this is - especially in real life - it looks cool AND it feels cool too!

To dress things up just a bit I added a raffia bow and pearl embellishment.  Here's a close-up that shows a bit more of all these details:

Happy Spring - Close-up View

It's funny how creativity works sometimes - it was only after the image was complete that I decided to switch gears and go with these background papers and colors.  I always create a sketch before I start any project, and my final design usually resembles the sketch in many ways, but not on this one LOL!!

Happy Spring - Alternate View

It took me all of two seconds to find this paper - and as soon as I saw it I knew it would be just right.  The next step was to die-cut and mat each of the layers.  Because I wanted dimension, and paper doesn't hold up very well when layered and popped, each layer has a coordinating die-cut card stock layer behind it as extra support.  This way the card will be sturdy enough to hold the layers and the popped up images.  The last step was to finish the inside panel and adhere the two ovals by using my scor-pal and scor-tape.

Here is the ODBD Stamp set used for this card:

Before moving on to my card, I just have to say - I had no idea when choosing a verse for the 5th Anniversary, how honored and special it would feel to actually create a card using that same verse.  It was quite a moving and spiritual experience for me.

So it's no surprise that the image on the front of my card was stamped on scrap card stock and was in no way intended for the actual card, but was created more as a test - just to see how the stamps would look together, etc.  No Stamp-a-magic was used, no careful precision with respect to where the lettering and horizon would meet; just a random stamp, one onto another.  Yet it turned out perfectly :).

The Lord is Near - Alternate View 1

To create this focal panel I stamped The Mighty Sea in Sahara Sand, then stamped the Psalm 145:18 verse in Soft Suede.  Then I softly colored the sun, sea and sand areas using chalks, re-stamped the Mighty Sea image in Soft Suede and delicately cut a couple of the Sea Birds to help bring everything together.

Then I die-cut the trees and flowers, colored the petals using markers and added a teeny dot of liquid pearls to the centers.  The photo below shows these details up close.

The Lord is Near - Close-up

To make the SB background layer I die-cut two panels - one in designer paper, the other in card stock.  I wanted these layers to be 'nested' but the next sized SB die was too small - so after embossing the paper layer, I carefully cut around the edge to get the matting effect I wanted.

The embossed designer paper layers are adhered directly to the card stock layers, but each of the other layers are all mounted using two different heights of dimensionals - to sort of 'group' the layers.

The Lord is Near - One More View for you

So, I truly hope you've enjoyed this special 5th Anniversary Hop with us today.  Thank you!!!

May your Love Increase Always!!

Hi Everyone - Happy Tuesday!  Hope all is well.  I have a new ODBD SLC Challenge card to share with you - we're celebrating Our Daily Bread Designs' 5th Anniversary - how exciting is that!!  There is lots of fun events being planned in honor of this milestone, so look for more to come very soon!!!

This project went through a couple of transformations before the creative process was complete, but the last few additions took it to the level I was after, and I'm glad for that.  I started with a square card base outlined in Silver Leaf Pen, then die-cut and mounted the Scalloped Square Doily Frame and added lots of die-cut leaves.

May your Love Increase Always!!
Then I stamped, cut and created the Sentiment and Ribbon/Bow arrangement, played with the placement of a bit, and then hit a snag.  Everything was coming together, but with the larger sentiment and huge statement-bow, the project just seemed to be calling out for something more.

So I completely switched gears and took the puppies for a walk around the neighborhood.  My 75lb four-year-olds are quite a treat to walk - thankfully they are fairly well behaved and no longer think they are the pack leaders LOL!!  After that I felt refreshed and renewed.

Happy Anniversary Front View
So it was easy to see once I returned to my workspace, that the card needed and wanted some more Bling!!  Hey, this is a 5-year Anniversary - why not!!??!!  I quickly found this sweet double-heart charm and the perfect sparkly corner gem-flourishes.  Getting these flourishes on was a little tricky because the card base and leaves were already assembled, but thankfully there was no glue around the edges so the leaves easily lifted out of the way.

At that point I adhered the sentiment and bow, added a few dots of pink liquid pearls and finished the inside.  Below is a close-up of the fun Button/Ribbon/Charm arrangement and the sentiment banner.

Let the Earth Rejoice - Shabby Chic

Hello Stamping Friends - hope your week is going well!!  And if it's Winter where you are, I hope your starting to see signs of Spring in your garden.  It's brrrr cold here this morning, but there are blooms in the yard and soon it will feel like Spring in the air - yippee!!

Today is Tuesday, and that means a new ODBD Challenge card to share.  This week's challenge is based on a Sketch - and I really had fun with it.  I went with a shabby chic look for a change - I so love this style, especially when created by those who have mastered the art of Shabby Chic.  Andrea Ewen is one of those people.  She is a true master of this style, and I drew inspiration from her on this one.

Let the Earth Rejoice!!

I loved the Sketch and decided to change it up just a little by using ribbon to create two 'tails' and keeping the sentiment as part of the focal area.  For this project I'd already chosen the Special Blend Label stamp with the verse from Let the Earth Rejoice, along with a special doily from my stash, so the next step was to bring everything together with some fun shabby-chic elements.

First I stamped and delicately cut the Special Blend label, then stamped and cut-out the verse.  Then I stamped the background panel with the Fish Background stamp and sponged/distressed all of those layers.  At that point I added little dots of white Liquid Pearls around the card and sentiment borders and let everything dry.

I made a bow, added the pretty flower on top, then added a couple of stick pins with pearls and beads to the arrangement. Here's a close-up of the sentiment and flower details:

Let the Earth Rejoice - Close-up

The last step was to put it all together.  Here's a link to Andrea's Blog in case you want to check out her amazing talent!  And here's a link to the ODBDSLC #145.  Below are pictures of the inspiration Sketch as well as the stamps used for this project:

Shout for Joy - Masculine CAS

Happy Sunday Everyone!!  Had a little stamping time today and am so glad to have been able to play in a couple of SCS and a few very fun Blog Challenges.  One of the SCS Challenges is today's Featured Stamper Challenge - today's FS is Suen on SCS and her gallery is filled with wonderful creations and I was inspired by so many of her CAS beauties!  I found several I'd like to CASE but needed a quick Masculine card so chose this beauty for my inspiration:  Sue's Patriotic Collage Beauty .

This is a Masculine CAS CASE!!  It's a one layer card, and it's made using one of my many favorite ODBD stamps - Keep Climbing.

To make this card I first stamped the Keep Climbing Scene at the very bottom of my card front and then started sponging the clouds.  After that I dabbed an Illuminate Stamp pad over the entire area, to give it a misty quality.  That added a bit of depth by highlighting different areas.  Then I used a couple of very fine Copic Marking pens (brown and black) to brighten and re-define the mountain and trees - to make the scene stand out a bit more.

Shout for Joy you Heavens!!

The last step was to stamp and sponge the die-cut sentiment tag and add the hemp/twine.  I sponged the tag in a bit of the same blue used on the sky/clouds and then sponged just a little bit of the brown around the edge of the tag and the card as well.

Here's a close-up photo of the tag.

Tag Close-up

This card was fun and easy - and that's saying a lot considering Masculine cards are not the easiest for me.  Plus I am still practicing my CAS skills - and this is an OLC card (except for the sentiment tag)!!

Card Recipe and other details:
  • Vanilla Naturals Cardstock (it has natural specs - which I like for masculine cards)
  • Espresso for stamping and sponging (edges), Bashful and Bordering Blue for sponging of the sky/clouds and two super fine Copic pens (brown and black)
  • ODBD Keep Climbing Stamp set
  • Cheery Lynn Designs French Flair Scalloped nesting dies
  • Brown Hemp/Twine

Card Challenges:

Thanks everyone for stopping by for a visit.  Work and business travel has kept me away and I hope to be back with a more regular schedule next week!!  I've missed my time in Blogland lately.

Blessings to you all!
